About the Opportunity

Ledgent, a Roth Staffing Company, is partnering with a respected manufacturing organization in the Sacramento, CA area, to identify an experienced Senior Cost Accountant. This is a direct-hire opportunity with a company that values analytical thinkers, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to cost analysis and financial accuracy.

The ideal candidate will bring heavy cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, strong analytical acumen, mastery of Excel, and hands-on expertise with ERP systems such as SAP or NetSuite.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3-5 years of cost accounting experience, in manufacturing
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas, lookups, modeling)
• Experience with a major ERP (SAP, NetSuite, or similar)

Preferred:

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• CPA or CMA certification
• Experience in standard cost updates, variance analysis, and manufacturing process flow understanding

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Cost Accountant, you will play a critical role in financial reporting, cost structure optimization, and operational support. Core responsibilities include:

Cost Accounting & Analysis

• Maintain, analyze, and update standard costs, including bill of materials (BOM), routings, and overhead rates
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual cost accounting close activities
• Conduct manufacturing variance analysis (PPV, labor, overhead, absorption, scrap, etc.)
• Reconcile inventory accounts and perform cycle count/physical inventory support
• Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs

Financial Reporting & Business Support

• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
• Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to COGS, inventory, and manufacturing operations
• Prepare detailed cost reports and present findings to management
• Partner with operations, supply chain, and production teams to provide insights that drive cost improvements
• Improve and streamline internal cost control procedures and reporting tools

Systems & Process Improvements

• Leverage ERP system capabilities (SAP, NetSuite, or comparable) for cost accounting and reporting
• Support implementations, upgrades, and enhancements to cost-related modules
• Develop and refine Excel-based models to support management decisions
